JubileeIn the Queen's Jubilee year Molesey Residents Association decided to celebrate the event by adding suitable engraving to Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee commemoration Horse Trough (at the junction of Wolsey Road and Bridge Road) which was erected in 1887. So the Association funded some engraving to celebrate our Queen's Jubilee to match the original engraving from 1887. Ernest Mallett then planted the horse trough with flowers, kept them watered, and they are now in full and beautiful bloom. Elmbridge Borough Council decided they also wanted to celebrate the Jubilee and, at MRA Councillor Mick Burgess' suggestion, decided to make £1,000 available to each electoral ward for lasting commemorations. Molesey Residents Association, again at Cllr Mick Burgess' suggestion, decided to spend the money allocated to the three Molesey wards towards part funding of three town clocks around Molesey. These clocks were to cost a lot more than the Council funding, but the Association pressed on in choosing and ordering the clocks. They requested permission from the owners of the three properties on which they were to be installed, and then applied for, and obtained, planning consent (which cost another £378). The Association then funded the installation of the clocks which took place during the week of the 50th anniversary of the Queen's coronation. The clocks were installed on the Post Office in Central Avenue, West Molesey; at The Emporium at the junction of Bridge Road and Creek Road, and on Kent's the Chemist in Walton Road, East Molesey. After installation we were pleased to receive a financial donation from Cllr Tony Pegler's Surrey County Council local fund. The final act was on Friday 25th July, when, on the first wet day for many weeks, the Mayor MRA Cllr Mick Burgess and his wife Carol, the Mayoress, completed the inauguration ceremony by Kent's the Chemists in Walton Road, East Molesey. In spite of the rain, those present enjoyed a glass of wine with the Mayor and Mayoress in celebration of a job successfully completed. Inauguration photographs.
