Central Avenue Post Office in West Molesey schedule for closure22/09/2004 GREAT NEWS This is very good news for the whole of Molesey - yes, even those living in
East Molesey since, if the Central Avenue Office closed the people of East
Molesey would find themselves standing in a much longer queue at the Walton Road
Office, due to all those from West Molesey having to use the Walton Road Office
as the only Post Office in the whole of Molesey.
The Association would like to thank all those residents who wrote as
requested in our leaflet and especially those who organised petitions and
objections off their own bat and, of course, our ever-faithful deliverers for
delivering our leaflet. We would also like to thank PostWatch for their input
with Post Office Ltd on our behalf. 15/08/2004 Councillor Mike Axton has written a letter to the local press. The letter
details the current situation as to the proposed closure of Central Avenue Post
Office. View
Letter Background Post Office Ltd have announced that they propose to close the Central Avenue Office in October. Two years ago Molesey had four Post Offices. Then the Bridge Road Office was closed. The Hurst Park Office has recently closed for an unspecified period to allow rebuilding of The Precinct shopping area (not yet started). Now, with the impending closure of the Central Avenue Office, Molesey will be left with only one Office (Walton Road) for all its 20,000 inhabitants. Even when there were three Post Offices open, the Walton Road Office was
always packed out with queues from counter to pavement. Here is what the Molesey Residents Association objection letter said: View
