(Medium) 26/08/04 As you may have seen, work is now underway on site. In recent days the trial pits have been dug and equipment has arrived. The timber hoardings have now been started and painted a familiar Tesco colour with information signs attached. According to the timetable, the stripping out of the interiors is underway and the demolition work will start soon. 15/08/04 The MRA have been given the following information about what is happening at Hurst Park Precinct. Timetable: trial pits have been dug; stripping out the interiors of the buildings starts this week; the timber hoardings will go up next week with a public viewing point; demolition starts September and takes four weeks; construction of the podium over the entrance to the store's car park starts mid September and completes in December; store construction starts in November with planned opening in May; the builder starts flats on top of the podium in January for completion by May; remaining flats will be built after that. Related issues: there will be a good deal of digging up the roads in Victoria and Buckingham Avenues from now on as they determine the routes of existing and planned services; there should be sufficient parking for construction workers around and on the site, and they will try to ensure no parking in residential areas; demolition will commence at the Victoria Avenue side and proceed southwards (i.e. the pub will be the last to come down); working hours will be 8am-6pm Monday to Friday and 8am-1pm Saturday. Public relations: The contractor will be leafleting all the houses surrounding the site to introduce themselves and advise householders about the project timetable, key stages, etc. 11/07/04 As mentioned previously, this run-down site and pub are due for demolition, to be replaced with a Tesco supermarket about twice the size of the East Molesey branch, a 150-place car park and about 50 1- & 2-bed flats 4-5 stories high. The demolition was due to start in June, but, due to a slight hold-up, is now expected to start during July. Obviously, the existing One-Stop shop and the pharmacy will be closed whilst this is going on, but the new Tesco is expected to open in January with a Post Office and pharmacy in the store. A new roundabout will be built on Hurst Road to ease access to and from the store and will also serve to slow traffic along Hurst Road. 03/06/04 The latest information we have is that the last shop will shut on the 19th June 2004, and the demolition of the site will start soon thereafter. 17/02/04 The meeting on 12 February of the full Planning & Licensing Committee approved the redevelopment of the Precinct by the developers Barton Finch. The vote was unanimous apart from the Molesey East Councillor, Conservative David Wright. The developers hope to complete the new store by the autumn. 12/01/04 The North Area Planning & Licensing Committee gave approval on 12 January to the application for redevelopment of the Precinct by the developers Barton Finch. The full Planning & Licensing Committee, which meets on 12 February, has the final say. The important question of opening hours and delivery times for the new Tesco was left for that committee to decide. The MRA make further comment about this issue in the Newsletters.
