Magical Molesey – 6th December 2007

Traders from Walton Road, with the support of the Molesey Residents Association, ReFresh and Elmbridge Business Network, have organised a festive evening of late night shopping and Christmas activities on Thursday 6 December from 5.30 to 9 pm. There will be activities taking place in the area extending from Hush Maternity up to The Meat Team.

Traders have committed to stay open for the evening and will be doing something special to contribute to the festivities. Many are offering discounts and special offers, and doors will be open for mulled wine, mince pies and other Christmas goodies. The traders have nominated Molesey Hospital as the charity to benefit from the event and will have collection points in their shops for donations.

Father Christmas will be walking up and down, ringing his bell and ReFresh has organised groups of carol singers to sing at different points up and down the Walton Road. There will be a children’s Fancy Dress Competition, to be judged outside Woolworths at 6 pm by Nigel Cooper, Deputy Mayor and Chairman of the Molesey Residents Association and balloon sculpting/face painting outside The Card Collection. There will be a competition for the ‘Most Festive Window’, also judged by the Deputy Mayor, with a first prize of a magnum of Champagne, donated by Bosworths. Molesey Local History Society will also be showing an exhibition of ‘Former Large Houses in Molesey’, hosted by Tudors.

The Residents Association has also organised a ‘Secret Santa’ competition, which will run throughout December, and will encourage shoppers to take a closer look into shop windows. Children will have to find twelve Santas hidden in the window displays, each with a letter on them, to make up a phrase that has something to do with Christmas. So far, three prizes have been donated for this competition, tickets for The Screen at Walton, a family ticket to Hampton Court and the first prize of a family ticket to a theme park, donated by Lloyds Bank.

We hope there will be something for the whole community to enjoy and that this festive evening will give a welcome boost to local shops.
