Police & Crime Commissioner meeting – 26th October

MEETING AT MOLE HALL, BISHOP FAX WAY off WALTON ROAD, WEST MOLESEY on FRIDAY OCTOBER 26th at 8.00PM.

The purpose of this meeting is to hear what the INDEPENDENT CANDIDATES putting up for election to the PCC post on November 15th have to say about how they see the job and what their attitude and priorities are with regard to Policing Surrey.

Members may know that the replacement of the current 17 person Surrey Police Authority (SPA) with a PCC is a government dictate. The views of Police Authorities and of Police Forces, up and down the country, have been over-ridden on this government proposal. This particular change in policing is the idea of the Prime Minister. It is based on the ‘Elected Sheriff’ system in America but watered down from the position of actually electing Police Chiefs.

The Police Authorities are not democratically elected as councils are, but they act democratically and are open to public view and to public opinion. The PCC will be a single person control of Police Policy for each County or Metropolitan area. He/she will also control ‘Means and Type of Police Performance’ and the Police Budget. The PCC will converse with a Scrutiny Panel made up of 1 councillor from each Council, i.e. in Surrey 12 persons. This panel will only be able to comment and will have no executive power as the SPA has.

Whatever you think of the PCC idea, it will happen on November 15th, whether you inform yourself or not and whether you vote on Nov.15th or not. The candidates being sponsored by the major political parties will be presenting their ideas to the political parties. The candidates putting up as ‘Independents’ want to present themselves to members of R.A.’s and Independent organisations. The latter are always clear that their organisations are not part of the major political parties and so it is natural for the independent PCC candidates to want to make contact with politically independent bodies.

SO, COME TO THE MEETING ON OCTOBER 26th.

LET YOUR MEMBERS AND FRIENDS KNOW & ENCOURAGE THEM TO COME.

LOOK UP THE CANDIDATES ON THE INTERNET UNDER ‘SURREY PCC CANDIDATES’ SO YOU HAVE EARLY INFORMATION.

Get yourself to East Molesey, then at the mini-roundabout where the Police Station is, proceed West up the Walton Road. After just over a mile continue on through the severe ‘S’ bend adjacent to St.Peter’s Church. BISHOP FOX WAY is the second RIGHT after the ‘S’ bend and the Mole Hall/car park is immediately on the right in BISHOP FOX WAY.

The meeting and venue is organised by Molesey Residents Association and MRA always provides good refreshments.
