NEW SURREY COUNTY COUNCIL COMMUNITY GRANTS FUND
MRA Councillor Ernest Mallett reports that a new community grants fund is being launched by Surrey County Council (SCC).
The new Leader of SCC has announced that a £100 million fund will be available for Surrey Community organisations to bid for capital project grants. The money will be allocated at the rate of £20million a year over 5 years. Three London Boroughs have already announced a similar scheme and the Surrey scheme will probably have similar rules to that of the London Borough of Lewisham, which you ca find on the web.
The scheme is expected to cover every type of value of any capital project, literally from small values to very large values. It may or may not involve some match funding as well as a guarantee on any ongoing revenue costs which the project may need. The actual details are in the hands of a Task Group which will submit the allocation rules to the Surrey County Cabinet for approval or amendment.
All local organisations will qualify and the Council is studying ways to get the scheme information out to all community bodies. It is expected that the application forms and the submission system will be web internet based. When the Lewisham Council scheme was announced, there were immediately many applications, so if your organisation has a project, now is the time to get on with the design and get quotes for the cost of materials and work involved.
