River Thames Scheme for Elmbridge, Kingston and Richmond
The River Thames Scheme programme, has been formed by the Environment Agency to work with communities to develop emergency flood plans, raise awareness of flood risk and also to raise awareness of the Scheme.
As part of the River Thames Scheme the programme will be modifying 3 of the existing weirs along the river at Sunbury, Molesey and Teddington. The work consists of constructing additional sluice gates to enable more water to flow through the weirs. This will reduce the difference in the upstream and downstream water levels, which can be seen in flood conditions. Lowering the upstream water levels will reduce the flood risk to people’s homes in the area.
Currently, works at Molesey weir are expected to begin in 2019.
